Field Hockey's Win Streak Ends Versus No. 2 Johns Hopkins

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team had its four-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday night with a 2-0 conference loss to No. 2 Johns Hopkins University.

The Blue Jays scored both of their goals in the third quarter. The Garnet battled, recording five shots and five penalty corners, but were unable to find the back of the cage. Cassandra Conklin stopped five shots between the posts for Swarthmore.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hopkins earned a pair of penalty corners and produced two shots in the opening three minutes but neither effort was on cage. The Garnet had their first chance with a corner in the eighth minute but Nina Wiggins's shot went wide. The Blue Jays sent another shot wide late in the period and the teams went into the second scoreless.

- Conklin made two saves in the 22nd minute, one of which was a diving stop at point-blank range, to keep Hopkins off the board. Swarthmore pressured near the end of the half with two penalty corners. Amelia Landry got a shot through to the goalkeeper but it was kicked aside. Another shot by Liza Semenenko went wide and the game remained scoreless at the break.

- In the third quarter, the Blue Jays had an opportunity in transition as a player got into open space in the circle. However, Conklin came out of her cage to stop the one-time shot off the pass. Hopkins had another effort deflect up and off the crossbar in the 40th minute.

- In the 41st minute, Conklin made another stop on a penalty corner but the Blue Jays were awarded a penalty stroke on the rebound. The visitors converted to take a 1-0 lead. Hopkins then doubled its advantage with just 24 seconds to go in the period, getting a shot through traffic and past Conklin. The Garnet had two penalty corners and one shot in the fourth but could not cut into the deficit.
