Men’s Soccer Rallies for Season-High Seven Goals in Rout over Eastern

SWARTHMORE, PA. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team overpowered Eastern University in a 7-2 blowout victory on Tuesday night. Kaden Cho headlined the offensive outburst with three goals after entering the game without a score in his rookie campaign.

Cho tallied scores in the 15th, 53rd and 55th minutes with a pair of assists from Anzel Zhen on his final two strikes. Zhen also assisted the opening score from Toshiro Kenney as the sophomore combined for a career-high three assists.

Kenney along with Joseph Eyiolowope had monster performances for the Garnet offense, collecting four points with a goal and two assists, respectively. Noah Daniel also totaled one goal and one assist, while Adrien Marcelli tacked on his lone score of the evening.

Despite Eastern holding a 19-17 shot advantage, the Garnet put 11 attempts on goal and were extremely efficient with their attack. Logan Aboudara made five saves for Swarthmore in the second half, while Colin Crowe opened the game with one save in a scoreless 45-minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kenney opened the scoring in the second minute with a quick statement from the Garnet offense. Henry Lin advanced the ball up the field, before connecting with  Zhen on the far side. The sophomore then fed the ball to Kenney, who buried the opening tally from inside the box.

- Moments later, Swarthmore struck again in the fourth minute with a score from Daniel. Eyiolowope broke Kenney into free space past a pair of defenders. Kenney then fed a pass to Daniel, who touched in his first collegiate goal at the opposite post.

- Cho scored his first of three goals in the 15th minute. Daniel passed the ball to Eyiolowope at the top of the box, who touched a magnificent feed to Cho for his first collegiate tally, making it 3-0.

- Marcelli joined the scoring after nearly connecting on an earlier opportunity. Kenney played the ball to Marcelli, who carried the ball towards the box and blew an attempt past the keeper for Swarthmore's fourth score.

- Lin made an excellent heads up play to hold the Eagles scoreless in the opening half. After an Eastern shot snuck past the keeper, the senior back made a defensive save before clearing the ball out of harm's way.

- Zhen assisted Cho on back-to-back scores in the 53rd and 55th minutes, respectively. Cho played the ball to Zhen, who then led the rookie into a one-timer past the keeper. Moments later, Zhen stole the ball from a defender, barreled towards the near post and then assisted another Cho one-timer for his third goal of the game. The rookie's consecutive scores gave the Garnet a 6-1 advantage.

- Eyiolowope capped off the scoring with a penalty kick to tally the team's seventh score in the 68th minute. The defense conceded another Eastern goal in the 75th minute, but overwhelmed the Eagles with a 7-2 victory.
