Men’s Soccer Settles For Scoreless Draw against McDaniel

SWARTHMORE, PA. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against McDaniel College on Saturday. The Garnet celebrated Team IMPACT Day at halftime as they recognized their match, Abu.

The Garnet outshot the Green Terror 14-5 with a 5-2 on-goal advantage, but were unable to cash in on its advantage. Adrien Marcelli was responsible for some of the team's best scoring opportunities, but was turned away on his team-leading four shots.

Colin Crowe posted a clean sheet in a full 90-minutes of action. The rookie recorded his second-straight shutout and fourth of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marcelli weaved a beautiful feed to Toshiro Kenney inside the box. The senior, who was under heavy pressure from the defense, had a good look at the net, but fired an attempt just wide of the far post in the 12th minute.

- Marcelli fired a free kick on goal from just outside the far side of the box in the 38th minute, but the attempt was punched away by the Green Terror's goalkeeper.

- Both teams battled to a scoreless draw in the opening half. The Garnet controlled the majority of opportunities, securing a 7-0 shot advantage and a 2-0 corner edge. Swarthmore attempted three shots on goal in the half, but were unable to bury one in the back of the net.

- Early in the second half, the Garnet defense fought off a pair of scoring chances. Crowe made his first save of the afternoon after the Green Terror got deep into Swarthmore territory. Moments later, Kenney and Swarthmore's defense swarmed on a pass inside the box to deny McDaniel of an advantage.

- Later in the half, the Green Terror thought they broke through with the opening score, but had a potential score waived off by the official.

- Marcelli created another scoring opportunity after maneuvering his way past a McDaniel defender. The senior sent a rocket on goal, but the keeper dropped to his knees to corral the attempt in the 72nd minute.

- In the 82nd minute, Swarthmore applied more pressure on McDaniel's defense. Kaden Cho sent in an attempt on goal, which was stopped by the keeper, but bounced around the box for a couple seconds. A Green Terror defender made a heads up play to kick the ball away from Dante Cholmeley-Jones with a slide tackle, before sending the ball harmlessly out of play.
