HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Ava Gizzie nearly broke the ice just over three minutes into the contest with a rocket of a shot from just inside the box. However, the Shorewomen goalie made a diving save to her right to keep the game scoreless.
- Swarthmore posted five more shots before finally getting on the board in the 38
th minute. The Garnet were awarded a corner kick but Washington was able to clear the ball to the top of the box.
Aminah Evans beat a defender to the loose ball and passed back to Jarmosevich. The rookie fired a shot from 30 yards just under the bar, and out of the reach of the leaping goalkeeper, into the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead.
- In the second half, the Shorewomen nearly produced the equalizer twice in a flurry of a sequence in the 54
th minute. An attempt from the top of the box eluded a leaping Bedward but rang off the crossbar. The rebound bounced back to a Washington attacker, whose second effort went just wide of the upper left corner and Swarthmore remained in front.
- The Garnet tallied a key insurance goal in the 62
nd minute. Gizzie dribbled down the right side of the field and shielded the ball from a defender hot on their heels. Swarthmore's leading goal-scorer then centered for Vrees, who also fought off a defender to get her foot on the pass and knock it into the goal for a 2-0 advantage.
-
Charlotte Carleton was close to upping the margin to three in the 66
th minute with a clear path in the box. However, the goalie was able to come out to cut off the angle and turned aside the attempt.
