SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's soccer team controlled possession and had a 12-11 edge in shots but came up short versus UMass Boston, 1-0, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon at Clothier Field Stadium.
 
The Beacons netted the lone goal of the game with three minutes to play in the first half. The Garnet put seven shots on frame during the contest and had the ball 54 percent of the time but they were unable to break through.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore pressured early on with five shots in the opening 15 minutes. However, the Beacons goalkeeper stopped four of the attempts and another was blocked by the defense. The Garnet continued to generate chances with four corner kicks in a five-minute span but they did not result in any shots.
 
- UMass Boston broke the scoreless tie with three minutes to go before halftime. The Beacons blasted in a shot from 25 yards out to take the upper hand.
 
- In the second half, the UMass Boston defense continued to stymie the Swarthmore attackers. The Beacons blocked a pair of shots and the goalie came up with two more saves to keep the Garnet off the board. Toshiro Kenney had a clean look at goal from the left side of the box but pushed his chance wide right in the 73^rd minute.
