Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Overpowered by No. 9 Gettysburg

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team was unable to overcome No. 9 Gettysburg College, 71-35, on Saturday afternoon.

Raven Richardson was the only Garnet in double figures with 10 points. Swarthmore shot 25.5 percent as a squad and were 0-for-12 from beyond the arc. Gettysburg shot 44.1 percent, while going 11-for-28 from three-point range.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the game tied at three, Gettysburg quickly titled the scale in its favor with 10-unanswered points in less than a two-minute span. Katelyn Becker stopped the bleeding with a much-needed layup. She ended the opening stanza with a team-best five points.

- Swarthmore was able to exit the opening quarter on a positive note with consecutive buckets from Jasmine Branda and Richardson, 22-13. The Bullets shot 56.3 percent in the stanza, while the Garnet tried to keep pace at 42.9 percent.

- Early in the second, Anna Hansson cashed in on an and-one layup to pull within seven. However, the high-powered Gettysburg offense rattled off eight-straight points to regain separation. The Bullets ended the half on a 7-4 advantage to take an 18-point lead, 39-21.

- Coming out of halftime, Gettysburg began to put the game out of reach with 12-unanswered to expand its lead to 30 points. Norah Wingfield and Carly Murphy put an end to Swarthmore's scoring drought with back-to-back buckets, but the team found themselves in a 32-point hole after a lopsided third quarter, 57-25.

- The Garnet were unable to chip away at their deficit in the fourth quarter. Richardson notched her 10th point on a jumper at the 5:58 mark. Gettysburg then countered with a three-pointer to spark a 6-0 swing. The Bullets ended up growing their lead with a 14-10 advantage in the final frame.
