Hayashi Reaches 1,000 Career Points, Women Cruise Past Bryn Mawr

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team returned to the win column with a 72-39 victory at Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday night. Senior Alyssa Hayashi scored 15 points to become the 12th player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone. 

Hayashi recorded her historic bucket with 4:35 remaining in the second quarter. The Garnet standout ended with 15 points to move into 11th all-time on the team's all-time scoring list. 

Anna Hansson led the scoring for the team with 16 points and eight rebounds. The junior shot 6-of-9 from the field, while scoring 12 of her points in the second quarter. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hayashi took over early with seven points in the opening seven minutes to lead her team to a 17-3 opening-quarter advantage. Carolina Lopez contributed four points in a stanza that was dominated by the Garnet. 

- The Garnet began the second quarter on a 4-0 run until Bryn Mawr answered with a three-pointer. Hansson tallied six of her team's first eight points to start the second. Hayashi then found her groove with consecutive layups to reach the 1,000 career point mark. The senior came away with a steal at half court before finishing at the basket for her milestone bucket with 4:35 left. 

- The Owls opened the third quarter with an 8-3 run. Katelyn Becker hit from three early in the quarter, while Rebekah Gendler knocked down a triple to get Swarthmore back on track. Bryn Mawr ended up outscoring Swarthmore 16-8 in the stanza to cut their deficit to 17 points, 47-30. 

- Bryn Mawr opened the fourth quarter with its 10th straight point to keep pressure on the Garnet. Swarthmore then settled back in with three-straight layups from Norah Wingfield, Becker and Hansson until Jasmine Branda put Bryn Mawr away with a back-breaking three, 56-32. The first-year added two more threes in the final minutes of regulation to finish with nine points off the bench.
