Men’s Basketball Shuts Down Washington for Third-Straight Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 67-28 victory over Washington College on Wednesday night. The Garnet have won 21-straight games over the Shoremen, who were held to the lowest opponent point total on record dating back to the 2011-12 season.

Zander Jimenez and Cal Hanson both scored in double figures to headline a dominant showing for the Garnet. Jimenez scored a game-high 14 points with three assists, three rebounds and six steals, while Hanson had 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Swarthmore's seniors both made big-time contributions for their squad. Aidan Godfrey scored eight points with three rebounds and matched a season-high five blocks, while Matt Mulvey hit a pair of threes in a six-point effort.

Washington ended up shooting 17-percent from the field with eight field goals. The Garnet forced their opponent into 27 turnovers, which also marks the highest amount of single-game forced turnover on record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet brought energy from the opening tip. Eddie Paquette opened the scoring with a layup after an excellent entry pass from Godfrey. The Swarthmore defense then forced a five-second violation on the ensuing inbounds play. Minutes later, Hanson knocked down a triple from the wing to cap off a 7-2 start for the home team.

- Swarthmore's full-court pressure immediately created issues for Washington College, who had six turnovers in the opening 10 minutes. Brady Kageyama drilled a three-pointer following a Shoremen turnover under Swarthmore's basket to give his team a double-digit advantage. Moments later, Paquette added a corner three to record the team's 11th-straight point, 15-2.

- The Shoremen clawed back within single digits after an 8-2 swing cut their deficit to seven points with 10:30 left. Swarthmore then countered with 16-unanswered points to end the half, 28-10. Nyle Coleman and Hanson both added a three-pointer during the team's run.

- Godfrey made life miserable for the Shoremen with four thunderous blocks in the last six minutes of the half. Washington went without a point for the final 10:30 of the opening half and were held to 13.6-percent shooting with 14 turnovers in the opening stanza.

- Hanson opened the second half with a jumper to score the team's 18th unanswered point. The Shoremen finally put an end to their scoring drought with a pair of free throws at the 16:37 mark. The Garnet kept their foot on the gas with an 11-0 run, before Washington hit a three-pointer for their first field goal in nearly 20 minutes of action, 46-15.

- Swarthmore kept adding to its lead in the second half. Mulvey connected from long range with a three-pointer to put the Garnet ahead by 39-points at the 4:07 mark. The senior then came away with a steal and drained another triple for his sixth point of the evening.
