Men’s Basketball Stumbles at Gettysburg

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team had its three-game win streak come to an end with a 69-62 loss at Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Bullets led from start to finish after jumping out to a big lead early in the game. 

Eddie Paquette and Zander Jimenez paced a trio of double-digit scorers with 13 points, while Brady Kageyama added 12 points. The Garnet shot 30.6 percent from the field and went 6-of-21 from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bullets jumped out to a double-digit advantage in the opening 10 minutes of action. Gettysburg started the game on a 19-9 run, which included a stretch of eight-unanswered points. 

- After a fast start from the Bullets, the Garnet regrouped with a 10-4 swing. Paquette opened the rally with a jumper and a three-pointer, while Caleb Aurelien and Cal Hanson added buckets to pull within four points with 2:55 left.

- Despite Swarthmore's efforts to chip away at its deficit, the Bullets remained in control with a 9-2 run to close the opening half. Free throws played a huge role in Gettysburg's success with the Bullets going 10-of-13, while holding the Garnet to 1-of-4 from the foul line. The Bullets went into halftime with a 32-21 lead. 

- Early in the second half, the Bullets took its largest lead at 16 points with 16:52 remaining. Gettysburg rallied with an 8-3 run, which was aided by a pair of three-pointers to open the final stanza.

- Swarthmore began to turn things around with a 13-3 run to trim their deficit to six points heading into the final 10-minutes of regulation. Paquette helped lead the charge with an and-one bucket and a three-pointer to contribute six points during the stretch, 43-37. 

- Following Swarthmore's rally, the Bullets delivered another gut punch with six-unanswered points to increase their lead to double digits, 49-37. Jonathan Stump then responded with a much-needed three, while Jimenez added a pair of free throws to make it a seven-point game with 7:49 left. 

- Moments later, Stump struck again with another three-pointer to bring his team within six points. However, Gettysburg once again withstood Swarthmore's momentum with six-straight points to increase its lead to 14 points at the 4:22 mark. 

- The Garnet clawed their way back to single digits after going on a 6-1 run, which consisted entirely of free throws. Swarthmore then made one last surge with an 11-3 rally in the final three minutes of action. Kageyama led the comeback with seven points in the final minutes, but the Garnet were unable to pull any closer than four points.
