Women’s Basketball Struggles Offensively in McDaniel Loss

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team struggled offensively in a 53-33 loss to McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet shot 23.6 percent from the field in comparison to 41.9 percent from McDaniel. Swarthmore was 2-of-18 from three-point range.

Alyssa Hayashi led the Garnet with 10 points, while Norah Wingfield contributed eight points. Hayashi needs 11 more points to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore got off to a slow start in the opening quarter with McDaniel taking control on an 11-4 run. Hayashi and Raven Richardson scored the lone field goals for the Garnet, who dropped the opening quarter, 16-5.

- Katelyn Becker opened the second quarter with a three-pointer, before adding a free throw on the following possession. However, McDaniel took command over the remainder of the quarter with an 11-4 run in the final eight minutes. The Green Terror entered the half with a 27-13 lead.

- After McDaniel started the third quarter with a layup, Swarthmore gained momentum with a 7-0 run to force a Green Terror timeout. Anna Hansson added layups on consecutive possessions, while Carly Murphy drained a triple to pull within nine points, 29-20.

- Following the McDaniel timeout, the Green Terror rallied for a 6-0 run. Becker then made an outstanding pass to find a cutting Hayashi to end the team's scoreless drought. The Green Terror closed the stanza on a 10-6 swing to take a 17-point advantage, 45-28.
