Men’s Basketball Overcomes McDaniel in Second-Straight CC Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team returned home from a four-game road trip with a 66-54 victory over McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon. 

Four different players scored in double figures in a well-rounded performance for the Garnet offense. Zander Jimenez paced the group with 15 points, while Devin Burger followed with 14 points. Cal Hanson and Brady Kageyama contributed with 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

After a tightly-contested opening half, the Garnet pulled away in the second stanza with a nine-point advantage. Swarthmore shot 50.0 percent from the field compared to 36.6 percent from McDaniel and won the turnover battle with a 16-8 advantage. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The lead was exchanged four times in the opening 10-minutes of the first half. Kageyama scored four points during the stretch as five different Garnet made contributions. However, McDaniel held onto a three-point lead midway through the half, 15-12. 

- Burger scored five-straight Swarthmore points with a layup and three-pointer to tie the game. The Garnet eventually created separation with eight-straight points to pull ahead by four with 2:44 left. Hanson, Eddie Paquette, Jimenez and Jonathan Stump all contributed during the eight-point stretch. The Green Terror later added a free throw before the buzzer to cut their halftime deficit to three points, 27-24.

- The Garnet took the game's first double-digit lead after scoring 10-straight points to open the second half. Hanson and Kageyama both fueled the run with three-pointers, while Burger and Paquette added buckets, 37-26.  

- After McDaniel cut its deficit to a bucket, the Garnet buckled down with nine-unanswered points. Kageyama connected from long range, while Burger capped off the run with a layup at the 3:46 mark. The Garnet undid the Green Terror's progress as they increased their lead back to 11 points, 54-43. 

- The Green Terror pulled within single digits, but were unable to gain any traction after a Jimenez and-one and a Burger triple. Swarthmore expanded its lead to a comfortable 15 points as they sealed the victory with 1:56 left.
