ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's basketball team opened the game with a 17-4 run and never trailed on the way to a dominant 71-41 Centennial Conference victory at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night.
The Garnet made a season-high 12 three-pointers on the night while holding the Mules to their season-low point total. The Swarthmore defense also limited Muhlenberg to its lowest field goal percentage of the campaign (.213) and the Mules netted just a trio of threes which tied its lowest count of the year.
Alyssa Hayashi was the leading scorer for the Garnet, tallying 14 points with a career-best four three-pointers. The senior also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds for her third career double-double.
Anna Hansson and
Lillian Czub recorded double-digit points with 13 and 10 respectively. Czub's total set a new career high for the rookie. Hansson added seven rebounds and four blocks.

Rebekah Gendler and Hayashi got Swarthmore going with back-to-back threes in the opening quarter. Hayashi followed with another triple to give the Garnet a 9-2 advantage with 3:42 on the clock. Overall, Swarthmore scored 17 of the initial 21 points in the contest over the first eight-plus minutes. Hayashi led the way with 11 points, including three makes from beyond the arc. Five of the Garnet's first six buckets were from behind the three-point line.
- Swarthmore took a 19-9 lead into the second quarter. With the score 21-11, the Garnet created more separation with a 14-2 surge. Swarthmore shot 5-of-10 during the sequence and Hansson was the top scorer with six points. The Garnet were in front 35-13 at the end of the run and went on to hold a 37-18 advantage at the break.
- Swarthmore produced the first four points of the third quarter to push the margin to 23 (41-18). Muhlenberg scored 10 of the next 13 points to cut the deficit to 16 (44-28) with 5:26 to go in the period. However, the Garnet bounced back with a 12-3 rally to end the stanza and take a 56-31 lead into the fourth. Czub led Swarthmore with seven points as the Garnet shot 4-of-6 during the stretch. Swarthmore led by at least 20 points for the rest of the game.
