No. 21 Field Hockey Records Shutout at Susquehanna For First Victory

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The No. 21 Swarthmore College field hockey team blanked Susquehanna University, 3-0, on the road to pick up its first win of the season on Saturday.

The River Hawks had a 9-7 advantage in shots but the Garnet placed four of their attempts on goal, three of them finding the back of the cage. At the other end, just three of Susquehanna's shots were on target.

Magdelana Jordan led the Garnet offense with a three-point day, tallying a goal and an assist. Katherine Kohn also scored and Hannah Ulrich notched her first collegiate goal. Violet Garibaldi stopped three shots to earn her first collegiate victory and shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The River Hawks pressured early, earning four penalty corners in the opening four minutes. However, both of Susquehanna's shots went wide of the cage. The home team had another corner opportunity late in the first quarter but Garibaldi came up with a save.

- After the Garibaldi stop, Swarthmore countered at the other end and beat the goalkeeper with its first shot of the contest. Jordan set up Kohn for her first goal of the campaign with 1:01 to go in the period and the Garnet had a 1-0 lead.

- The River Hawks had another flurry of penalty corners midway through the second but the Swarthmore defense blocked a shot while another went wide. Late in the frame, the Garnet earned a corner chance in the 28th minute. Hayley Harris found Jordan at the top of the arc and her shot found the back of the cage for a 2-0 Swarthmore advantage heading into halftime.

- The Garnet threatened in the third quarter, recording three penalty corners and two shots in the 36th minute but the lead remained at two. The Swarthmore defense limited Susquehanna to just one shot during the stanza, which was turned aside by Garibaldi.

- Garibaldi made her final save early in the fourth quarter and the River Hawks did not put another shot on goal the rest of the way. Ulrich put the game away with her first collegiate tally in the 56th minute.
