Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 13 Men’s Soccer Suffers First Loss to No. 23 Diplomats

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The No. 13 Swarthmore College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of No. 23 Franklin & Marshall College, 2-1, on Saturday night. The Garnet had their six-game winning streak come to an end.

The Garnet battled back to tie the game in the 66th minute on Len Yamabe's eighth goal of the season. The sophomore added to his season total with his fourth-straight game with a goal scored. The Diplomats eventually regained the lead on a penalty kick in the 85th minute.

Christian Bignotti was excellent for the Garnet with several spectacular saves to keep his team within striking distance. The senior captain made a season-high seven saves in a full 90-minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bignotti made the game's first save in the 15th minute. The Garnet then survived another Diplomat attack in the 21st minute after their shot attempt found the crossbar.

- JohnPaul D'Andrea helped generate some early offense in his first career start. The first-year had his first attempt saved in the 18th minute, while his other shot attempt was blocked in the 22nd minute.

- Yamabe tried to take advantage of a Swarthmore free kick in the 43rd minute. The sophomore played a ball into the box, but was unable to find one of his teammates as the keeper corralled the loose ball.

- Bignotti was forced to make another challenging save in the 45th minute. The Diplomats played the ball low to the keeper with traffic inside the box. Bignotti gathered the attempt, but slipped as he was forced to regain possession of the loose ball while being pressured by the Diplomat attack.

- Early in the second half, Bignotti stepped up with another big stop. The senior captain made a point-blank, sliding stop to halt a Diplomats run in the 51st minute. Bignotti then made another crucial save in the following sequence, but the Diplomats took advantage of a deep Swarthmore turnover to claim the first lead, 1-0.

- The Garnet evened up the score in the 66th minute on Yamabe's eighth goal of the season. Kaito Hikino set up the score with a beautiful leading pass from midfield, which broke Yamabe free and gave him a one-on-one look at the goal.

- Franklin & Marshall delivered the final dagger in the 85th minute with the game-winning score off a penalty kick. The Diplomats earned the penalty kick after a Garnet handball in the box.
