SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team opened a three-game road swing with a 4-0 loss to Messiah University on Wednesday. The Garnet entered tonight's game on a three-game winning streak.

The Falcons jumped out to a three-goal lead in the opening quarter and never looked back. Swarthmore held Messiah without a shot in the third quarter, but were unable to cut into its early deficit. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Messiah took advantage of an early corner attempt to secure a quick lead in the fourth minute. The Falcons then scored off another corner attempt in the eighth minute, before adding a third score in the following minute.

- The Garnet were held without a shot for the opening half. Messiah threatened on offense with four corner attempts, but were turned away by Swarthmore's defense. The Falcons were unable to register a shot on goal in the stanza.

- Swarthmore outshot their opponent, 3-0, in the third quarter. The Garnet earned consecutive corners in the 39th minute, which generated a pair of shots from Sarah Cooper and Sophia Hitchingham. Both shot attempts were blocked by Falcon defenders. Erin Coyle then took another shot in the final minute, but had her attempt sail wide. 

- The Falcons added on with their fourth score in the 52nd minute. The Garnet threatened moments later with their first shot on goal from Katherine Kohn, but the attempt was turned away by the goalie.
