FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team opened play at the ITA Regional Tournament on Saturday. 

Kathleen Shiffer/ Erin Li headlined championship doubles with a pair of victories to clinch a spot in tomorrow's Round of 16. The pairing bested Salisbury University and the University of Mary Washington to advance in the tournament. 

DOUBLES
- Shiffer/ Li cruised to victory, 8-1, over Salisbury College in the opening round. The duo then advanced to the next round with an 8-3 decision over the University of Mary Washington. Shiffer/ Li will compete in the Round of 16 against Carnegie Mellon University, tomorrow morning. 

- Lara Geib/ Madeline Posner opened the Round of 64 with a doubles victory, 8-3, over Franklin & Marshall College. The pairing then fell to Johns Hopkins, 8-5, in the following round. 

SINGLES
- Shiffer defeated her opponent from Washington College in the opening round. The junior took down her fellow Centennial Conference challenger with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Shiffer then fell to Carnegie Mellon, 6-3, 6-0 in the second round. 

- Brianna Viets outlasted her opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dickinson College in the Round of 64. However, the first-year lost to Johns Hopkins, 6-4, 6-4 in the following round.

- Li took down her challenger from Washington College in the opening round, 6-2, 6-0. She then fell to Mary Washington, 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 32.

- Ella Strickler cruised to victory in the Round of 64 with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Lebanon Valley. She then suffered defeat to Washington & Lee, 6-1, 6-3 in the second round.

- Posner defeated Stevens Institute of Technology 6-1, 6-2 in the singles blue draw, while Lara Geib bested Stevens 6-2, 6-4. Posner went on to defeat Lynchburg, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. However, Geib lost her quarterfinal matchup to Johns Hopkins.
