Field Hockey Rolls Past Sewanee, Seven Different Players Tally Goals

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team captured its third-straight win with a dominant 8-1 victory over Sewanee College on Saturday afternoon.

Seven different scorers found the back of the cage for Swarthmore. Katherine Kohn led the charge with two goals with the first and final goals of the contest. Sarah Cooper, Hannah Ulrich, Hayley Harris, Avery Bloom, Amelia Landry and Gabriella Vasquez also scored for the Garnet. Vasquez headlined the long list of scorers with her first collegiate goal.

The Garnet made things easy for their defense as they controlled possession with a 33-2 shot advantage. The Garnet also had an 18-3 advantage in corner attempts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kohn opened the scoring in the fifth minute with an unassisted score. The senior controlled a loose deflection in front of the cage, before beating the goalie for the opening score. Later in the quarter, Cooper added a penalty stroke in the 11th minute, while Ulrich capped off a three-goal stanza with a tally in the following minute. The first-year buried a pass from Magdelana Jordan off a corner attempt, 3-0.

- Harris opened the scoring in the second quarter with a goal in the 19th minute. Erin Coyle set up the opportunity with an outstanding centering pass to find the stick of Harris at the opposite post. Later in the stanza, Caroline Vos set up a Bloom goal with a remarkable pass in the 29th minute. Vos maneuvered past a pair of defenders at the opposite end and connected with the stick of Bloom on a perfectly-placed pass from the far side, 5-0.

- The Garnet carried momentum into the third quarter with an early goal from Landry. Ulrich sent a laser towards the cage, which deflected off the stick of Landry for her first tally of the season. The Garnet were held to just one goal in the stanza.

- The Tigers broke their scoreless drought with their lone score in the 46th minute. However, Vasquez and Kohn both added goals for the Garnet in the quarter. Vasquez scored in the 53rd minute, while Kohn added her second tally in the 56th minute. Both goals were scored with heavy traffic in front of the cage.
