Fuselier Scores Overtime Winner, Field Hockey Downs No. 25 Stevens

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Grace Fuselier scored the winning goal with 2:20 remaining in overtime to give the Swarthmore College field hockey team its first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season, 2-1, against No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet came from behind for the win as Sarah Cooper tied the game at one with 48 seconds to go in the third quarter, a period in which Swarthmore outshot the Ducks 8-0. Neither team was able to manage a shot in the fourth, sending the contest into overtime. The Garnet had a 6-4 advantage in shots during the extra period.

In the closing minutes of overtime, Swarthmore pressured with a penalty corner opportunity. Magdelana Jordan's shot from the top of the arc was stopped by the goalkeeper. Amelia Landry put a chance on goal that was also denied. The rebound went back to Landry and another offering was deflected in by Fuselier at the goalmouth for the game-winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet held Stevens without a shot in the opening quarter. Swarthmore threatened with three penalty corners during the frame but were unable to score on its four shots.

- The Ducks created their first sustained pressure early in the second. The visitors had four penalty corners in less than a minute. The first two shots were blocked and saved but the third attempt found its way through from the top of the arc and into the back of the cage for a 1-0 Stevens lead.

- The Garnet failed to score on their three second-quarter shots and trailed at the break. Swarthmore had a prime opportunity to tie it up just over three minutes into the third with a penalty stroke. However, the shot was turned aside by the Ducks' goalie and the Garnet remained behind.

- Swarthmore finally broke through in the final minute of the third quarter. The Garnet were awarded a penalty corner and the ensuing play resulted in a scrum in front of the net. Two shots were saved by the goalkeeper but the final rebound bounced back to Cooper, who shot it into the left side of the cage to tie it at one. There were no shots or penalty corners on either side of the fourth, setting the stage for Fuselier's heroics.
