No. 21 Women’s Soccer Earns Draw Against Rowan

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 21 Swarthmore College women's soccer team held on for a draw against Rowan University, 1-1, on Wednesday afternoon. The Profs were receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches national rankings.

Allie Zitelli opened the scoring in the 27th minute with her first goal of the season. The Garnet maintained their one-goal advantage until Rowan forced a draw with a score in the 59th minute.

The Garnet outshot the Profs 18-14, while holding a 9-3 advantage in corner attempts. Swarthmore controlled possession for the majority of the opening half, but Rowan was able to flip the script with a 10-7 shot advantage in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet threatened early in the half with a pair of corner kicks. Charlotte Carleton connected with a header on the second attempt, but directed the shot high. Moments later, Rowan had an opportunity on the attack, but fired a shot wide past the diving goalkeeper.

- Sofie Aird passed her first test of the game with a diving save in the 22nd minute. The Garnet then created a quality scoring chance at the other end, but had a Sydney Ross shot attempt saved.

- Zitelli put the Garnet on the board in the 27th minute with a strike from the center of the box. Ross controlled the ball from the left side before feeding Zitelli an assist for the opening score. The senior netted her first score of the season after scoring a career-best five goals last season.

- The Garnet came fingertips away from adding a second goal before halftime in the 42nd minute. Ross took a free kick from 25-yards, which was deflected off the crossbar by the fingertips of Rowan's goalkeeper.

- The Garnet dictated much of the pace in the opening half with an 11-4 shot advantage. Swarthmore was credited with 64-percent of possession in the half with 46-percent of possession in the attacking zone.

- Rowan nearly buried the equalizer in the 59th minute. The Profs attacker made an excellent move to beat her defender before delivering a strike off the crossbar.

- The Profs evened the score in the 77th minute with a strike from just outside the box. The Rowan attacker beat Aird high for the game-tying score in its second shot on goal of the game.
