SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped the opening game, 10-7, but came back to win the nightcap, 13-3 in seven innings, and earn a doubleheader split against Washington College in Centennial Conference action on Saturday.
Jett Shue led the way for the Garnet, going 6-for-8 with a double, a triple, six RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases.
Matthew Silvestre tallied four hits, including three doubles, with four RBI and two runs.
Joe Radek and
Aidan Sullivan also totaled four hits with Radek and
Benjamin Buchman driving in three runs apiece.
On the mound,
Noah Potholm hurled a complete game for the victory in game two. He surrendered three runs and struck out four.
GAME ONE
- Shue opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second to give Swarthmore a 1-0 lead. The Shoremen countered with two in the third, scoring on a groundout and a wild pitch to go in front.
- Washington pulled away with a six-run fifth to make it 8-1. The Shoremen batted around and produced five hits in the inning. The Garnet got back on the board in the bottom of the inning as Silvestre plated two with a two-out double to left center to cut the deficit to five (8-3).
- In the sixth, Washington singled in another run to up the margin to six. Silvestre knocked in another run with a single in the seventh and the score was 9-4. A sacrifice fly in the ninth gave the Shoremen a six-run advantage (10-4).
- Swarthmore tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth, pushing across three runs. Radek and Shue hit back-to-back RBI singles and a groundout brought in another run. The Garnet brought the tying run to the plate but a groundout ended the contest.

GAME TWO
- Washington struck first with a home run in the opening frame. Swarthmore answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to go in front. Sullivan led off with a double and scored on Silvestre's double. Shue drove in two with a triple and Buchman singled in another run.

Max Beadling blasted a two-run homer to give the Garnet a 6-1 advantage in the second. Both teams pushed across a run in the third with Swarthmore's coming on a Radek RBI single.
- The Garnet pulled away with three more runs in the fourth. Beadling drew a lead-off walk then Silvestre followed with a double. Shue then brought both home with a base hit down the left field line. Radek later plated Shue with a double to center.
- The Shoremen's final run came in the fifth to make it 10-3. Swarthmore then ended the game early with three runs in the seventh. Sullivan crushed a two-run homer to right field and Buchman plated the game-ending run with a sac fly.
