Baseball Combines for 29 Runs in Double-Header Sweep

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team swept Muhlenberg College to remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play. The Garnet improved to 3-0 in the conference heading into tomorrow's double-header with Washington College.

Aidan Sullivan extended his hit streak to 22 games this season with hits in both contests. Dating back to last season, Sullivan has recorded a hit in 31-straight games. In 51 collegiate games played, he has been held hitless in just five contests. The sophomore currently leads the nation in on-base-percentage.

Liam Alpern was excellent in the opener as he helped preserve the Garnet bullpen with 6.1 shutout innings. The junior captured his second victory of the season, while allowing just three hits with a season-high seven strikeouts.

Swarthmore's offense was the storyline with 19 runs in the finale. Joe Radek led the way with three hits and 4 RBI. The senior finished a triple shy of the cycle. Brad Johnston, Matthew Silvestre and Jett Shue also went deep for the Garnet as the duo combined for seven hits and 11 RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Aidan Sullivan extended his hit streak with a double to open the first game of the double-header. The Garnet moved Sullivan over to third with a sacrifice bunt, but struck out twice to strand their leadoff hitter.

- The Garnet opened the second inning with consecutive singles from Max Beadling and Shue, before sacrificing both runners into scoring position. Benjamin Buchman then singled through the right side to bring home one run, while Beadling scored from second on a fielding error by the right fielder, 2-0.

- Swarthmore added on with another pair of runs in the third inning. Sullivan walked to open the inning then went first to third on a Max Roffwarg bloop single to right field. Johnston and Beadling both brought home runs with sacrifice flyouts, 4-0.

- Alpern held Muhlenberg without a hit through 4.1 innings until the Mules singled up the middle in the fifth inning. Alpern immediately erased the baserunner with a pickoff as he retired the Mules in order.

- Wilson Henze added a run in the sixth with an RBI double. Kaiden Rosenbaum worked a one-out walk and stole second base, before scoring on Henze's double. The Mules threatened in the sixth inning with two runners in scoring position, but Alpern escaped a one-out jam as he hung another zero on the scoreboard, 5-0.

- Swarthmore doubled its lead with a five-run ninth. The Garnet did all their damage with two-outs after the first two batters grounded out to shortstop. The Mules extended the inning with an error, which was followed by a single and a walk to load the bases. Rosenbaum then plated a pair with a single through the left side, while the team added two more on a dropped flyball by the centerfielder.
