Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Washington College, 9-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 23 Swarthmore College women's tennis team cruised past Washington College, 9-0, on Wednesday night. The Garnet improved to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Lola Diaz picked up a pair of victories in top doubles and singles action, while her double partner Erica Stutz earned another win in No. 4 singles.

DOUBLES
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Diaz/ Stutz captured their first wins of the evening with an 8-6 decision in top doubles. The Garnet then won No. 2 doubles behind an 8-2 victory from Spencer Watts/ Ruthie Njagi. 

- Washington College withdrew from No. 3 doubles to concede a doubles sweep to the Garnet. 



SINGLES
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Diaz helped put Swarthmore over the top with a 8-4 victory in top singles. The sophomore won her first two conference matches of the season, while recording victories in all three sets. 

- Oviya Kumaran made quick work of her opponent with an 8-2 victory in No. 2 singles. 

- Ella Strickler won in straight sets for the second-straight match. The first-year took the opening set 6-1, before batting to a 7-5 victory in No. 3 singles.

- Stutz wrapped up competition with an 8-0 victory in No. 4 singles. Washington College then withdrew from the final two singles matches. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet (5-3, 2-0) travel to No. 10 Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.
