Baseball Drops Final Home Game to Haverford

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped its second-straight against Haverford College with an 11-5 loss in its home finale on Friday afternoon.

Matthew Silvestre had three hits with a pair of doubles and two RBI to lead the Garnet. Max Roffwarg also put together a three-hit performance with two runs scored at the top of the lineup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Fords scored a run in the first, Roffwarg found center field grass with a bloop hit that he stretched into a double to lead off the first. Silvestre then drove a double to deep center to bring home the tying run, 1-1.

- Haverford regained the lead with a solo homer in the third inning, before the Garnet answered with a run in the bottom half. Roffwarg singled down the left-field line to open the frame and then went first to third on a Silvestre single up the middle. Brad Johnston drove home Roffwarg with a single to left field, but Silvestre was thrown out at the plate for the inning's second out, 2-2.

- Andrew Moy shut down the Fords with a quick fourth inning. Swarthmore then threatened in the bottom half, but ran into another out on the basepaths. Benjamin Buchman drove a one-out double off the center field wall to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. However, the junior was eventually tagged out at home after trying to score on a dribbler in front of the catcher.

- Roffwarg led off the inning with a hit for the third time with a single to open the fifth. Silvestre then plated the go-ahead run with a double to deep, right-center field to score Aidan Sullivan, who reached on a fielder's choice, 3-2.

- Haverford was responsible for the game's first crooked inning with four runs in the sixth. Roffwarg helped escape the jam with an excellent play at shortstop to strand a pair of runners in scoring position for the final out. Silvestre also had an outstanding diving catch in left field to limit damage, 6-3.

- Swarthmore put runners on the corners in the sixth, but were unable to get a run across. The Fords then rallied for four more runs in the seventh to take a seven-run lead, 10-3.

- Radek provided the Garnet with a much-needed spark with a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, 10-5. The Fords added a run in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk, but Dane Skufca struck out a batter looking to end the inning in his first appearance on the mound since 2022.
