WASHINGTON, MD - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team dropped its final road game of the season at Washington College, 12-9, on Wednesday.
The Garnet threatened with a late comeback as they shutout the Shorewomen 5-0 in the fourth quarter. Entering the fourth quarter, Swarthmore made waves to overcome its eight-goal deficit, but were unable to dig themselves out of a hole.
Isabela Bloomquist led the way for Swarthmore with three goals and three assists.
Zoe Crawford also netted three scores for the Garnet, while
Abigail Love added a couple scores.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bloomquist opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 12:11 mark. The Shorewomen then controlled the rest of the quarter with five-straight goals to take a four-goal advantage, 5-1.
- Washington scored its sixth-straight goal to open the second quarter. Swarthmore then answered with a couple quick scores from Crawford and Bloomquist to pull within three goals. Crawford scored off an assist from Bloomquist, while Bloomquist added a woman-down goal with 10:53 left. The Shorewomen scored the last goal of the half to bring their lead back to four goals, 7-3.
- The Shorewomen outscored the Garnet 5-1 in the third quarter.
Aubree Daugherty tallied the lone Swarthmore score with an unassisted goal at the 6:34 mark, 12-4.
- Swarthmore outscored the Shorewomen 5-0 in the fourth quarter as the team did their best to erase an eight-goal deficit.
Abigail Love scored in the first 15-seconds of the quarter. Moments later, Crawford and Bloomquist added goals within a minute of each other to shrink their deficit to five goals. Love then connected on a power-play goal at the 9:31 mark, before Crawford netted the team's final goal with 2:08 left.
