SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team ended its season with a 9-7 loss to No. 23 Haverford College on Saturday. The Garnet conclude the year with an 8-7 record.
The teams were even at three in the second quarter when the Fords used a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 advantage at halftime. Swarthmore cut the deficit to one (7-6) heading into the fourth but Haverford won the quarter, 2-1, to hold on for the victory.
Isabela Bloomquist led the Garnet with three goals and four points.
Zoe Crawford found the back of the net twice.
Mia Holland tallied a game-high four caused turnovers while
Anna Stancofski totaled four draw controls.
Helen Stafford paced the squad with five ground balls and stopped 10 shots in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Fords scored the first two goals of the game but Bloomquist and
Abigail Love netted back-to-back tallies to draw Swarthmore even with 5:46 to go in the opening quarter.
- Haverford hit the back of the net at the 4:09 mark of the first before Crawford posted her first marker of the afternoon a minute into the second to tie it up at three. However, the Fords closed the opening half with four straight goals to take a 7-3 lead into the break.
- The Garnet shut out Haverford in the third quarter as Swarthmore closed the gap to one. Bloomquist scored twice within a three-minute span and Crawford beat the goalkeeper with just 28 seconds left in the frame to make the score 7-6.
- The Fords recovered early in the fourth, scoring twice in the opening five minutes of the period to restore a three-goal cushion (9-6). The Garnet were only able to solve the goalie once down the stretch as Haverford secured the win.
