No. 27 Women’s Tennis Fall to No. 33 Haverford

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 27 Swarthmore College women's tennis team fell to No. 33 Haverford College, 6-3, in a pivotal Centennial Conference matchup on Wednesday night. The Garnet dropped to 4-2 in conference play as they fell out of second place in the conference standings. 

Haverford took control early with a 2-1 advantage in doubles action. The Fords then won the first three matches of singles play to quickly clinch victory over the Garnet. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Oviya Kumaran/ Spencer Watts picked up a lopsided victory at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 decision. However, the Swarthmore pairing of Lola Diaz/ Erica Stutz fell 8-3 in top doubles to even the team score. 

- The Fords secured the doubles advantage with a victory in No. 3 action. The Garnet duo of Daniela Padron-Castillo/ Riya Rao dropped a tightly-contested 8-6 decision to fall behind heading into singles action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
SINGLES
- Diaz fell in top singles action, 6-1, 6-3. Kathleen Shiffer then suffered defeat in straight sets after dropping a competitive opening set, 7-5, in No. 2 singles. 

- Jenny Lewis retired in No. 3 singles after winning the opening set, 6-2. The senior fell 6-0 in the second set before retiring heading into the third set. 

- Ella Strickler won in straight sets in No. 4 singles. The first-year took the opening set 6-2, before securing victory with a 6-4 win in the second set. 

- Lara Geib won 8-3 in No. 6 singles to earn Swarthmore's second singles win. Erica Stutz battled in No. 5 singles, but fell 8-6 in a hard-fought set.

The Garnet (7-5, 4-2) return to the court versus Gettysburg College on Saturday.
