SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team handed Washington College its first Centennial Conference loss with a double-header split on Saturday. The Garnet dropped the opener 7-2, before bouncing back with a 7-4 victory in the finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet got off to a promising start with a pair of singles from
Iris Barone and
Jordan Jackson in the first inning.
Alex Simon then drove home the game's first run on a sacrifice flyout.
Olivia McClammy doubled to left-center to put a pair in scoring position, but the Garnet struck out twice to squander their chance at a big inning, 1-0.
- Swarthmore was unable to shut down the Shorewomen in the second as they rallied for a couple runs to take the lead. Washington plated its first run on a wild pitch, while the go-ahead run scored on a sacrifice fly.
- Emily Bertrand settled down with three scoreless frames to keep the Garnet within striking distance. Swarthmore brought the tying run into scoring position with one out in the fifth, but were unable to come through with a big hit.
- Washington padded its lead with a solo homer in the sixth inning. The Garnet then added a run in the bottom half on a Shorewomen dropped fly ball, 3-2.
- The Shorewomen blew the game open with four runs in the seventh inning as they took advantage of a couple Swarthmore errors. The Garnet were unable to generate much offense in the bottom half as they were unable to dig themselves out of a five-run deficit.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore got on the board first with an RBI single from Simon. Barone started the inning with a leadoff walk, before stealing second to advance into scoring position, 1-0.
- Washington jumped ahead with a run in the third and fourth innings. However, the Garnet answered back with a two-run fourth to leapfrog the Shorewomen. McClammy sparked a two-out rally as she stunned the infield with a rare bunt single. Bertrand then put a pair in scoring position with a double, while Serafina Tinio brought home both runners with a single to right field, 3-2.
- The Shorewomen regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a two-out, two-run single. Swarthmore's offense came through in the bottom half with a crooked, four-run inning. Ava Babcock started the rally with a leadoff double to center field. Jackson then tied the game with a two-out single up the middle, while Simon and McClammy loaded the bases with back-to-back singles to prolong the rally. Bertrand then busted the game open with a bases-clearing double to take a three-run lead, 7-4.
- Lane Barron preserved Swarthmore's lead with two scoreless innings to seal the victory.
