Midkiff Overtakes Program Wins Record, Baseball Sweeps Gettysburg in Swarthmore Slugfest

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team exploded for 21 combined runs as they outslugged Gettysburg College in a double-header sweep on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet won the opener 11-3, before holding on for a 10-8 victory in the finale.

With today's sweep, Matt Midkiff became the all-time program wins leader as he passed the legendary Ernie Prudente. Midkiff achieved his 229th and 230th career victories to overtake Coach Prudente's previous record of 228 wins.

Andrew Moy led the way with his fourth win of the season in the opener. The junior tossed seven innings, while allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. The Garnet bats outhit the Bullets, 16-6, as Jett Shue, Wilson Henze, Max Beadling and Joe Radek all had three-hit performances to slug a combined 12-for-16 at the plate with seven RBI.

Swarthmore found its power stroke in the double-header finale with home runs from Aidan Sullivan, Matthew Silvestre and Benjamin Buchman. Sullivan led the trio with five RBI as he added a triple to his stat line.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Garnet opened the scoring with a couple runs in the second inning. Shue tripled in the first run, while Radek plated the second run on a sacrifice flyout. The Bullets then matched the Garnet with a game-tying two-run shot in the third inning, 2-2.

- After Moy retired the Bullets in order, Swarthmore regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Shue opened the inning with his second-consecutive triple, while Radek brought him home with a double to left-center field. Moy then shutdown Gettysburg in order with another easy fifth and sixth inning, 3-2.

- Swarthmore busted the game open with a crooked number in the sixth inning. Henze, Max Roffwarg and Max Beadling added RBI singles in the frame, while Aidan Sullivan brought home a run with a double to hang a four-spot on the Bullets, 7-2.

- Moy completed his line with a scoreless seventh inning. The junior ended his outing with four-straight shutout innings after suffering his only blemish on a two-run homer in the third inning.

- Henze tacked on another RBI knock in the eighth inning, before Kaiden Rosenbaum brought home one more with a double down the left field line to put Swarthmore ahead by seven. Gettysburg responded with a solo homer in the eighth, but Swarthmore answered with a pair in the bottom half with a Buchman double and a Shue sacrafice flyout.
