Baseball Falls at No. 10 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE - The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped the final game of its season series against No. 10 Johns Hopkins University, 9-4, on Friday afternoon.

Four different players added to the team's RBI total. Max Roffwarg went 1-for-2 at the plate with a solo homer and a walk to lead the Garnet offense. Matthew Silvestre, Benjamin Buchman and Jett Shue also added an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore struck first with a run in the first inning. Buchman started the rally with a single to the shortstop before advancing into scoring position on a passed ball. Shue then brought the go-ahead run home with a double to right field. Johns Hopkins tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame, 1-1.

- Roffwarg slugged his first homer of the season and the second of his career to put Swarthmore ahead in the third. Buchman then plated another run on a fielder's choice. Hopkins jumped ahead in the bottom half with an RBI single and a two-run shot to lead 4-3.

- Liam Alpern retired the side in a scoreless fourth inning. The Garnet threatened in the fifth with a leadoff triple by Aidan Sullivan, but stranded their leadoff hitter at third base to end the frame.

- The Blue Jays added to their total with a run in the fifth inning. Swarthmore then loaded the bases in the seventh with a pair of walks and a Max Beadling single. Silvestre beat out a double play as he hustled down the line to plate a Swarthmore run, before using his wheels to steal second base. However, the Garnet were unable to capitalize as they stranded a pair in scoring position and trailed 5-4.

- Hopkins added breathing room in the seventh with four runs to pad its lead. The Garnet were unable to generate a late comeback as their offense was held scoreless in the final two innings.
