Men’s Tennis Rolls Past Haverford, 8-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 10 Swarthmore College men's tennis team continued to run through its Centennial Conference challengers with a 8-1 victory over No. 38 Haverford College on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Faulkner Courts.

Swarthmore's dominant effort was highlighted by Michael Melnikov, Rushil Patel and Max Lindstrom, who were all two-time winners with victories in singles and doubles action. The team's win marked the program's largest margin of victory over the Fords since 2015. 

DOUBLES
HOW IT HAPPENED

- After defeating nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins this weekend, Melnikov/ Utham Koduri continued their excellence with a top doubles victory, 8-2, to open tonight's match. Andres Fente/ Rushil Patel also won comfortably with an 8-3 decision in No. 2 doubles for their second-straight conference win.

- Swarthmore completed the doubles sweep with a win in No. 3 action. Lindstrom/ Aadhi Raja battled to an 8-5 victory to give the Garnet a 3-0 advantage heading into singles. The same Swarthmore duo took down Johns Hopkins No. 3 pairing over the weekend.



SINGLES
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Melnikov earned his seventh-straight top singles victory as he remained unbeaten in the conference. The sophomore opened with a 6-3 victory in the first set, while holding off the Fords with a 7-5 straight-sets win. Melnikov was presented his sixth-career Centennial Player of the Week selection on Monday. 

- Lindstrom picked up his second win of the evening and his fourth-straight singles win with a straight-sets victory in No. 2 action. Lindstrom won both sets easily with a 6-2 decision.

- Kevin Jiang bounced back from a loss at Johns Hopkins with a win in No. 3 singles. The junior took the opening set 6-2, before closing out the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Jiang improved to 5-1 in singles action this season.

- Patel made it a two-win night with a No. 4 singles victory. The senior took both sets with a 6-3 decision. The match marked his first conference singles competition of the season. 

- Rishi Verma battled to a three-set victory on court five. The first-year jumped out to a 6-1 victory in the opening set, before dropping the following set 6-3. Verma won comfortably in the deciding set with a 6-1 decision.

The Garnet (13-1, 4-0) host Ursinus College and No. 40 Christopher Newport University on Saturday.
