Women’s Lacrosse Blanks Eastern in Home Opener, 16-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team cruised past Eastern University, 16-0, in its home opener on Thursday afternoon. The Garnet held the Eagles scoreless to post their first shutout since the 2018 season against Bryn Mawr College.

Abigail Love led the way for Swarthmore with four goals to headline nine unique goal scorers. Isabela Bloomquist, Kela Watts, Sophie Finkelstein and Annabel Stifler all added a pair of goals, while Jada Green notched her first-career goal.

Helen Stafford earned the victory with a pair of saves in one half of action, while Brooke Carrier made one save in a scoreless second half. The Garnet outshot Eastern 41-4 and were a perfect 13-of-13 on clear attempts. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bloomquist scored both of her goals early with a pair of scores in the opening three minutes. The junior collected both goals less than a minute apart from each other. Moments later, Sophie Finkelstein added on with the team's third goal at the 11:14 mark. The Garnet would pile on in the quarter with goals from Watts and Love to take a 5-0 advantage.

- In the second quarter, Watts opened the scoring at the 11:51 mark. Stifler then added back-to-back scores for her fourth and fifth goals of the season. Love then wrapped up the opening half goal total with her second score of the game, 9-0.

- Finkelstein gave Swarthmore a 10-goal advantage with 13:52 left in the third period. Love then completed her hat trick with a tally at the 10:07 mark, before striking again with 4:54 remaining. Later in the third, Carly Rodrigues-Reilly found the back of the net to close the stanza, 13-0.

- Lilian Lewis was the first of three new goal scorers in the fourth quarter. The sophomore put the team ahead by 14 goals at the 13:12 mark. Gillian Will then added a tally with 8:23 left, while Green secured her first-career goal with 5:35 left. Will had an excellent night with three points on one goal and two assists.
