Baseball’s Late Comeback Falls Short Against No. 7 Rowan

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team fell to No. 7 Rowan University, 11-9, on Friday night. The Garnet nearly clawed their way back with a six-run ninth inning, but were unable to overcome an early deficit against the Profs.

Brad Johnston, Max Beadling and Kaiden Rosenbaum all strung together three-hit performances to lead the Garnet offense. Xavier Taylor also reached base three times with one hit and a pair of walks.

Andrew Moy kept Swarthmore in the game with five outstanding innings of relief. The junior allowed two unearned runs, while striking out four batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rowan jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the first three innings. The Profs scored one run in the first, three in the second and two in the third to build themselves an early cushion, 6-0. The Garnet had runners in scoring position in both the first and second innings, but were unable to break through with a clutch knock.

- Moy entered the game in the fourth with a 1-2-3 frame. Beadling then tried to kickstart a two-out rally in the bottom half of the inning, but was left stranded at third base.

- Rowan added two unearned runs in the sixth inning to expand their lead to eight. Swarthmore then broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom half. Ben Buchman was hit by a pitch to start the rally, while Jett Shue singled to center with one out. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Beadling singled to left field to plate the team's first run. Swarthmore then added a second run on a passed ball, 8-2.

- Rowan looked to put away the Garnet with three runs in the ninth inning to take a nine-run lead. However, Swarthmore refused to back down as their first three runners reached base to start the bottom frame. Sullivan and Roffwarg both singled, while Matthew Silvestre worked a walk to load the bases. Brad Johnston brought home a pair with a single, before Buchman and Shue added on with back-to-back RBI singles, 11-6.

- Following a Rowan pitching change, Xavier Taylor singled in another run with one out. The Garnet then added on with a wild pitch to bring the trying run to the dish with two outs. However, Swarthmore's magic ran out as they struck out to end the game.
