No. 16 Men’s Lacrosse Tops Ospreys in Non-Conference Finale

GALLOWAY, NJ - The No. 16 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 16-6 victory over Stockton University on Wednesday afternoon. The Garnet head into conference play with a 6-1 overall record.

Clay Almgren paced the Garnet with a six-point performance as the sophomore totaled three goals and three assists. Owen Hoffman also collected a hat trick with a team-hight four goals, while Von Mabbs scored twice in a three-point effort.

Swarthmore led Stockton in every statistical category. The Garnet outshot their opponent 52-34, while winning the ground ball battle 30-25. Matthew Martinez and Jack McHenry also continued their excellence in the faceoff circle with a 19-6 advantage.

Drew Tyson notched his third win of the season after a full 60 minutes between the pipes. The sophomore had a season-high 18 saves for a .750 saves percentage. Tyson set his previous career high with 17 saves in his last game versus Amherst.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore put its foot on the gas with three-straight goals to open the night. Von Mabbs kicked off the scoring with a goal in the opening minute, while Almgren and Hoffman added tallies in the opening five minutes. The Ospreys controlled the final 10 minutes of play with a pair of goals, while keeping the Garnet off the scoreboard, 3-2.

- Much like in the opening quarter, Swarthmore raced out to a fast start with three goals in the first five minutes of the second. Carter Strauch connected on the first tally, while Almgren and Nolan Ohrman found the net during the team's 3-0 swing. However, the Ospreys kept Swarthmore quiet for the remainder of the half as they cut their deficit in half with a pair of scores, 6-4.

- The Garnet and Ospreys traded goals to open the third quarter. Hoffman started the scoring with a goal at the 10:45 mark, before Stockton answered back with a score a couple minutes later. Swarthmore then took control of the game with seven-straight goals, which spanned between two quarters. Michael Hardiman and Hoffman scored within a minute of each other, while Almgren and Rex Mabbs ended the stanza with two more Garnet goals, 11-5.

- Swarthmore maintained its momentum with goals from Danny Lowe, Jackson Brosgol and Von Mabbs to open the fourth quarter. Almgren was credited with an assist on the last two goals, while Hardiman assisted Lowe's tally to open the fourth. The Ospreys ended their scoreless drought with 2:12 remaining in regulation, before Hoffman put up one last insurance tally to seal the win.
