SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team defended its unbeaten record with a 19-9 victory over SCAD-Savannah on Friday night. The Bees entered the game ranked No. 4 in the NAIA.
Isabela Bloomquist totaled seven or more points for the third-straight game as she notched a season-high six goals with two assists. Sophie Finkelstein also collected a hat trick with three goals and one assist to headline an offensive explosion for the Garnet.
Helen Stafford led the defense with a game-high 11 saves in her fifth win of the season. Sofia Pelayo and Emma Hickey also caused a game-high three turnovers, while Pelayo added a game-high four ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bees jumped out to an early lead with a pair of goals in the opening three minutes. Swarthmore then turned things around with seven-unanswered scores to end the quarter.
Kela Watts opened the scoring with back-to-back goals within a minute of each other. Finklestein then immediately scored off the draw to give Swarthmore the lead. The Garnet continued to pile on with three goals from Bloomquist and an
Abigail Love to wrap up the opening quarter, 7-2.
- The Garnet continued their scoring barrage with three-straight goals to open the second quarter. Carly Rodriguez-Reilly provided the first score on a power play advantage, while Lillian Lewis and Annabel Stiffler tallied the team's ninth and tenth straight goals to put Swarthmore ahead by eight. SCAD-Savannah stopped the bleeding with a pair of goals, before the Garnet countered with three-straight scores from Finkelstein, Elizabeth Zack and Aubree Daugherty. The Bees totaled two more goals before intermission, while Swarthmore capped off a 14-goal half with a goal from Zoe Crawford, 14-6.
- Defense took over early in the third quarter as both teams were held scoreless for the opening seven minutes. The Bees eventually broke the scoring drought with 8:00 remaining, before Finkelstein quickly completed her hat trick moments later. Following another score from SCAD-Savannah, Bloomquist scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes to close the quarter, 17-8.
- SCAD-Savannah opened the scoring in the fourth quarter. Swarthmore then responded with goals from Bloomquist and Stiffler to increase its lead to a game-high 10 goals with 10:01 remaining. The Swarthmore advantage held until the final whistle as both teams were held scoreless in the final 10 minutes.
