SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 22 Swarthmore College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at No. 16 Trinity University (Texas) to conclude its spring break trip on Thursday.
It was a tough challenge for the Garnet against the Tigers, who boast three of the top 50 singles players in the country as well as two doubles teams in the top 20.
Kathleen Shiffer picked up the lone win for Swarthmore.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The Garnet's top squad of
Nathalie Williams and
Erica Stutz took on the Tigers' duo ranked eighth in the nation but fell 8-6.
Spencer Watts and
Oviya Kumaran also took on a nationally-ranked pair, dropping the match 8-4 to the No. 19 team.
- Trinity earned wins at fifth, second, and third singles before Shiffer grabbed the win at the fourth position, 6-4, 6-1. She defeated Division III's 42
nd-ranked player.
- The Tigers claimed victory at sixth and first singles to close the match. Williams went to a third set against the national No. 8 but ultimately lost in a super tiebreak.
