Baseball Explodes For 24 Runs, Ends Spring Break Trip With Win Versus Ithaca

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Swarthmore College baseball team ended its spring break trip in style with a 24-9 drubbing of Ithaca College on Thursday.

The Garnet banged out 24 hits on the day and scored multiple runs in five different innings. The performance capped off a big week at the plate for Swarthmore, as the Garnet tallied 70 runs over their seven contests in South Carolina.

Six different players racked up three hits apiece. Max Beadling drove in a team-high five runs and scored twice. Jett Shue posted three RBI and four runs scored. Brad Johnston also scored four times.

Jeremy Jensen was solid in relief, tossing three scoreless frames and allowing just one hit to pick up the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore got out to a 6-0 advantage in the first inning. Max Roffwarg and Aidan Sullivan successfully pulled off a double steal with Sullivan coming home. Roffwarg later scored on an error. Shue plated two runs with a double to left, Johnston came home on a wild pitch, and Shue scored on Beadling's sacrifice fly to finish the scoring.

- The Bombers answered with three runs in the second before the Garnet added two more in their half of the frame. Roffwarg scored on a wild pitch and Shue recorded a sac fly.

- Ithaca went off for six runs in the fourth to take a one-run lead (9-8). The Bombers mashed four hits and capitalized on an error. However, Swarthmore regained the upper hand with a five-run fifth. The first six batters all hit a single, with Beadling, Kaiden Rosenbaum, and Sullivan picking up an RBI. Sullivan's base hit brought in two runs. Xavier Taylor then scampered home on a double play.

- In the sixth, Johnston launched his second home run of the year and Beadling added an RBI single to make the score 15-9.
