Baseball Suffers Extra-Inning Loss To Ithaca

LEXINGTON, S.C. – Ithaca College rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to deal the Swarthmore College baseball team a tough 9-8 loss in South Carolina on Wednesday.

The teams were even at four after seven innings. The Garnet scored in the eighth to take a one-run lead but the Bombers tied it with an RBI double in the ninth to force extras. Swarthmore put up three runs in the top of the 10th but was unable to hold the advantage.

Kaiden Rosenbaum went 3-for-4 to lead the Garnet. He posted a double, one RBI, and one run. Brad Johnston tallied two hits while Matthew Silvestre drove in a pair.

It was a bullpen game for Swarthmore with six pitchers seeing action. Nitin Rao, Zach Potthoff, and Ethan Weiss all had scoreless appearances.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rosenbaum opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead. They maintained the upper hand until the fifth when Ithaca scored twice on a single to go in front.

- The Bombers struck for two runs again in the sixth to pad their lead. One run scored on a error with another coming in on a wild pitch.

- Swarthmore responded with three runs in the seventh to tie it up. Silvestre hit an RBI single, Benjamin Buchman recorded a sacrifice fly, and Johnston knocked in a run with a base hit. The Garnet then went ahead in the eighth with Rosenbaum scoring on a fielder's choice.

- In the ninth, the first two Ithaca hitters were retired but the Bombers followed with a single then a double to even the score at five. A wild pitch advanced the winning run to third but a strikeout sent the contest into extra innings.

- Swarthmore answered with three runs in its half of the 10th, producing four hits and capitalizing on an error. Max Beadling scored on the miscue while Aidan Sullivan and Silvestre each had an RBI hit.

- However, the Bombers had another rally in them in the bottom of the 10th. Ithaca loaded the bases with one out. A hit by pitch and a fielder's choice got the Bombers within one (8-7) before an infield single tied the game up. Another base hit, this one to left, brought in the winning run as Ithaca walked off with the victory.
