Women’s Basketball Drops Season Series to Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team dropped a pivotal matchup versus Ursinus College, 67-55, to lose the season series against the Bears on Tuesday night. The Bears jumped the Garnet for fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings after both teams entered play with an 8-8 conference record.

After a tightly-contested opening stanza, the Bears took control of the game with a 19-3 advantage in the second quarter. Urisnus did most of its damage down low with 44 points in the paint.

Dana Bandurick paced the Garnet with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Alyssa Hayashi and Katelyn Becker also scored in double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Becker matched a career-high in scoring as she impressed in 20 minutes off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bandurick went coast-to-coast for a layup to give Swarthmore its first lead after forcing a Bears turnover at the 7:15 mark. Ursinus later regained the lead with six-unanswered points to capture momentum until Swarthmore trimmed its deficit to two points with buckets from Emily Smith and Becker, 12-10. After the Bears built their lead to five points, Becker provided a much-needed answer with a three-pointer from the wing, before Hayashi added a jumper to tie the game, 17-17.

- After the Bears opened the third quarter with four-straight points, Carly Murphy put the Garnet on the board with a mid-range jumper at the 6:13 mark. Ursinus then took control of the game and quickly gained separation with 15-straight points. The Bears outscored the Garnet by 16 points in the stanza to take a commanding lead into halftime, 36-20.

- Bandurick provided Swarthmore with a spark after cashing in an and-one layup with 4:41 remaining. However, the Bears quickly squashed momentum as they countered with another three-pointer to cap off five-unanswered points. Ursinus built its lead to 20-points heading into the final stanza, 53-33.

- Swarthmore tried to climb back into the game with a pair of buckets from Bandurick and Becker to open the fourth. Becker then used a screen to knock down an open three-pointer, while Hayashi added a corner triple to decrease the team's deficit to 12 points with 7:00 to play. Later in the quarter, Hayashi connected from deep once again, which was followed by a Becker steal and layup to pull within 11 points. However, the Bears held off Swarthmore as they maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
