Women’s Basketball Blows Past Rosemont, Four Score in Double Figures

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team returned to its winning ways with a dominant 93-27 victory over Rosemont College on Thursday night. The team won by 66 points for its second-largest margin of victory since the 2011-12 season. 

Alyssa Hayashi totaled 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting with five rebounds, four assists and five steals to lead a high-powered Garnet offense. Carly Murphy and Jasmine Branda also scored in double figures with 13 points, while Norah Wingfield added 12 points. 

Eleven different players scored for the Garnet to highlight a well-rounded box score. The Garnet shot a season-best 44.9-percent from the field and won the turnover battle 39-12. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wingfield hit from long range to give the Garnet an early 7-2 advantage. The Garnet then began to pull away with an Hayashi steal and fastbreak layup to build a seven-point lead with 6:09 left.

- Later in the opening quarter, Wingfield continued to possess the hot hand with another corner triple for her eighth point of the stanza. Hayashi then buried a three to put the Garnet ahead by 12 points with 3:03 left, 19-7. 

- The Garnet began to pull away with a 9-3 stretch in the final two minutes of the first stanza. Lillian Czub knocked down a three-ball with 30-seconds remaining, while Carolina Lopez added on a fastbreak layup before the buzzer, 28-10. 

- Hayashi scored on back-to-back layups to tally the first four points of the second quarter. Swarthmore opened the stanza with 10-unanswered points, including four from Wingfield and Hayashi, 38-10. 

- Carly Murphy added three-straight buckets to increase the team's lead to 33 points with 1:39 remaining in the first half. Murphy combined for 10 points in the quarter to lead her team to a 35-point lead, 47-12. As a team, the Garnet shot 47.4-percent (18-of-38) from the field as Wingfield, Hayashi and Murphy all enjoyed double-digit points at intermission. 

- Rebekah Gendler opened the third quarter with a three-pointer as the Garnet continued to take it to the Ravens. Swarthmore opened with the first 22 points of the quarter and ended with a 24-5 advantage in the third. The Garnet took a 54-point lead into the final stanza, 71-17.

- Branda connected on her second three-ball, while Lopez added a layup to put the Garnet up 61 points. Branda then sank a pair of free throws to increase her season-high total to double digits, before cashing in one final triple for her 13th point. 

- Vanessa Amsinger closed the game with a three-pointer in the final minute to take a 66-point lead. The Garnet ended the game with their second-highest margin of victory since the 2011-12 season.
