Women’s Soccer Locks Up Fifth-Seed with Haverford Draw

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team secured the fifth seed in the Centennial Tournament with a 1-1 draw against Haverford in the regular season finale on Saturday. The Garnet will travel to Dickinson for the opening round of the conference tournament.

Nicole Jensen scored the equalizer for the Garnet in the 74th minute. The first-year saved her first-collegiate score for an opportune time as she helped earn her team the fifth seed in the Centennial Tournament.

Haverford scored its lone goal on a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Outside of the Fords' one scoring opportunity, the Garnet dominated play with a 16-3 shot advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Haverford tallied the first couple shots of the evening, but were unable to generate much offense outside of the opening five minutes. Callie Stoltz had a shot attempt saved in the 14th minute, while Ava Gizzie had a strike saved in the 28th minute.

- Early in the second half, Swarthmore fired off a flurry of shots, but were unable to break through for the opening score. Gizzie fired a strike off the post in the 54th minute, while Charlotte Carleton found the crossbar in the 55th minute.

- After Swarthmore generated the first five shots of the half, Haverford caught a break after they were awarded a penalty kick in the 61st minute. The Fords took advantage of their opportunity as they buried a strike to the low-left corner.

- The Garnet finally broke through with the game-tying score after dominating possession for the majority of the game. Gizzie forced the keeper to make a challenging save, while Jensen put back the rebound in the 74th minute. Gizzie was credited with an assist on the goal.

- Gizzie nearly delivered the game-winner, but was turned away by the post in the 75th minute. Jensen also had another quality look at the net in the 77th minute, but missed just wide on her attempt.
