Women’s Basketball Stumbles in Second Half Against Arcadia

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team opened its three-game homestand with a 63-47 loss to Arcadia University on Tuesday night. 

The Garnet played the Knights tight in the opening half, before falling behind in a lopsided second half. Swarthmore held its last lead at the 3:08 mark in the third quarter and were outscored 28-11 for the remainder of the game. 

Katelyn Becker was the only Swarthmore player in double figures with 11 points. The senior shot 3-of-5 from the field with five rebounds and two blocks. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet rallied for six-unanswered points midway through the opening stanza. Alyssa Hayashi notched consecutive buckets, while Rebekah Gendler closed the stretch with a jumper to take an 8-3 advantage. The Knights then closed the gap with four-straight to end the quarter, 8-7. 

- The Knights tied the game with a three-pointer in the opening minute of the second. Norah Wingfield and Anna Hansson then regained the lead with consecutive scores, until Arcadia eventually found themselves in front after a triple with 1:16 remaining, 19-18.

- Following the go-ahead three from Arcadia, Hayashi answered with a triple of her own to propel the Garnet into the lead. The Knights tied the game again, before Katelyn Becker drained a go-ahead three to take a three-point lead with 23 seconds left. The Knights provided one final answer before intermission with a three-ball to tie the game, 24-24. 

- Early in the third, Swarthmore took control of a tie ball game with six-straight points. Carly Murphy opened the stretch with a jumper, while Becker scored the next four points. The Knights flipped the script later in the quarter with a 13-2 run, which included a stretch of 10-unanswered, to end the stanza, 46-38. 

- Arcadia carried momentum into the fourth quarter with the opening seven points. The Knights opened the final stanza with consecutive threes - including a four-point play to take a 15-point lead. 

- The Garnet brought the game within 10 points after a Gendler long ball with 6:12 left. However, the they were unable to pull any closer as they were outscored 17-9 in the final quarter.
