SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's basketball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating visiting Penn State Harrisburg, 82-65.
The Garnet got out an early 11-3 lead and never trailed in the contest. Swarthmore had a 40-32 advantage at halftime and pulled away over the final 20 minutes.
Devin Burger led the way with a double-double off the bench, tallying career highs with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Nyle Coleman,
Eddie Paquette, and
Brady Kageyama all finished with 10 points with Paquette adding five rebounds and five assists.
Aidan Godfrey was 4-for-6 from the field with a three-pointer and totaled nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams hit a three to start the game then the Garnet took over with eight straight points for an 11-3 advantage. Burger scored three points,
Quaye Agoyo drilled a three, and
Jonathan Stump recorded a layup. With the score 18-10,
Jack Guevara hit a triple and Paquette made a pair of free throws to give Swarthmore a 13-point cushion (23-10) with 11:20 on the clock.

Cal Hanson sank a three-pointer at the 9:25 mark to give the Garnet their largest lead of the period at 27-13. The Nittany Lions responded with eight consecutive points to get within six (27-21) but it was the closest they came to Swarthmore for the rest of the stanza.
- The Garnet started the second half strong with seven points in a row to open up a 15-point lead (47-32). Godfrey made a layup then Coleman converted two foul shots and drilled a three. After two Harrisburg free throws, Burger scored a layup before Kageyama hit from beyond the arc to push the advantage to 18 (52-34).
- The Nittany Lions cut the deficit to 12 (57-45) with 10:34 to go but Swarthmore answered with an 11-0 run to build its largest cushion of the afternoon (68-45) with 7:54 remaining. Burger registered four points, Kageyama sank another triple, and
Ryan Chu and Coleman both added a layup. The Garnet rolled the rest of the way.
