Men’s Basketball Outlasts Stockton in Wild Second Half, Wins Second-Straight

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team held off Stockton University, 73-63, to win its second-straight at home on Tuesday night.

The Ospreys erased their double-digit halftime deficit with a 14-2 run in the opening 10-minutes of the second half. However, the Garnet hung on with a 28-19 advantage to finish the game and withstand a couple of late Stockton runs.

Devin Burger totaled a double-double for the second-straight game with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds. The junior shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc to set a new career-high in three-pointers made. Cal Hanson and Eddie Paquette scored in double-figures with 13 points, while Nyle Coleman dropped a season-best 12 points as the fourth Swarthmore scorer in double digits.

Aidan Godfrey was spectacular on the defensive end. The senior protected the rim with five blocks against an athletic Stockton squad, while grabbing eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet opened the game with a 7-1 run. Coleman and Paquette got to the bucket with consecutive layups to open the game, while Jack Guevara capped off the run with a three-pointer. Stockton battled back to take its first lead with an 11-5 swing. Burger then connected from long range to put the Garnet ahead with 12:41 left, 14-12.

- Brady Kageyama buried a triple to put Swarthmore ahead by eight points with 7:50 left. Hanson aided the 9-3 run with a pair of buckets, while Coleman got to the hoop again for a hard-fought two points.

- The Garnet built its lead to double digits with three-straight threes. Hanson connected on the first triple, while Burger sank two-straight from beyond the arc with 6:23 remaining, 32-20.

- Swarthmore began to distance themselves from the Ospreys with a late rally before intermission. Guevara dropped another three-ball to put his team ahead by a half-high 16 points. After an 8-2 Ospreys run, Coleman added a layup before the half to put the Garnet ahead by 12 points, 43-31.

- Coming out of halftime, Stockton turned the game upside down with a 14-2 run to pull within a point. The Garnet shot 1-for-14 from the field in the opening 10-minutes of the second half as their 12-point halftime advantage slowly disappeared. Stockton eventually tied the game with 8:24 remaining, 46-46.

- Following a timeout, Caleb Aurelien muscled his way to a tough two-points inside the paint to put the Garnet ahead with a much-needed bucket. Burger then nailed a three-pointer to increase the team's lead to four points with 7:05 left.

- Kageyama drilled a corner three-pointer off an inbounds play with two seconds remaining on the shot clock. The sophomore was fouled on the play and completed his four-point play at the charity stripe, 55-47. Following a timeout, Coleman banked in a three to pull ahead by 11 points.

- After a 7-0 Stockton swing brought the game within one possession, Paquette answered with a big-time, three-pointer to add some breathing room with 3:14 left. Hanson then cashed in an and-one layup to put the Garnet up by nine points, 66-57.
