Volleyball Rolls at McDaniel For Seventh Win in a Row

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Swarthmore College women's volleyball team won its seventh consecutive match with a 3-0 sweep at Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Garnet dominated play, hitting an impressive .446 as a team while limiting the Green Terror to a -.056 percentage. It was Swarthmore's highest attack percentage of the season. The Garnet also committed a season-low six attack errors while also setting a new season high with 12 service aces.
 
Izzy Adam and Angelina Heminway led the way with 10 kills each. Alexia Enache added nine kills and compiled a team-high .692 hitting percentage. Emily Sun and Madeline Mountcastle chipped in with 16 and 15 assists respectively. Melissa Eyer paced Swarthmore with eight digs and five service aces while Sun added four aces. Hannah Humphreys recorded five blocks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet held a slim 4-3 edge early in the opening set. Swarthmore pulled away with four straight points, including three consecutive service aces by Eyer, to stretch the margin to five (8-3). McDaniel was within three at 10-7 when the Garnet went on a 6-1 run to make it 16-8. With the score 16-10, Swarthmore went on another rally, this time a 7-1 surge, to get within two points of winning the set (23-11). A kill by Heminway wrapped up a 25-15 Garnet victory.
 
- In the second set, Swarthmore had an early 3-2 advantage. The Garnet scored five of the next six points to push the lead to five (8-3). The Green Terror cut the deficit to two (8-6) but Swarthmore responded with a 7-2 stretch to make it 15-8. The Garnet cruised the rest of the way to another 25-15 win.
 
- McDaniel got out to a 4-2 lead in the third set. However, Swarthmore answered with a 6-1 surge to go in front 8-5. Enache led the charge with three kills with Eyer and Mountcastle each registering an ace. With the score 8-6, the Garnet put the match away with 13 straight points to build a 21-6 stranglehold. Swarthmore went on to take the match with a 25-7 decision.
