Men's Tennis Concludes Fall Season at Skidmore Invitational

| Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule with competition at the Skidmore Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Nicholas Choo, Max Lindstrom, and Michael Melnikov highlighted singles action for the Garnet with all three reaching the semifinals in their respective brackets. Choo and Melnikov teamed up in doubles and made a run to the final while Lindstrom and Kai Chen bounced back from an early loss to win the consolation bracket.
 
DOUBLES
- Choo and Melnikov played together for the first time this season and the duo reached the final in the Springs bracket. The team got off to a strong start with a 6-0 shutout of Williams College in the quarterfinals. The Swarthmore pair then came out on top in a close semifinal battle, 7-5, versus Skidmore College. Choo and Melnikov had to settle for a runner-up finish, falling 5-7 to Bowdoin College.
 
- In the Thoroughbred bracket, Lindstrom and Chen had a disappointing start to their tournament with a tight 5-7 defeat to Skidmore in the quarterfinals. The pair bounced back with a 6-3 triumph against UC Santa Cruz to begin consolation play. In the consolation final, Lindstrom and Chen battled through a tiebreak to come out on top, 7-6 (7-5), versus Wesleyan University.
 
- Dylan Hayes Gilbert and Rishi Verma opened the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Skidmore in the quarterfinals of the Mountain bracket. The duo came up short in the semis with a 4-6 loss to Wesleyan.
 
SINGLES
- Choo earned a pair of wins in the Adirondack bracket. He battled through a tiebreak to win his opening set, 7-6 (8-6), then cruised to a 6-0 victory in the second set for an opening round triumph over Williams. Choo then rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 success against Bowdoin in the quarters. Choo's run came to an end in the semis with a 6-7 (5-7), 0-6 defeat to the eventual winner from Bowdoin.
 
- Lindstrom and Melnikov both reached the semifinals of the Skidmore bracket. Lindstrom began play with a 6-1, 6-2 win versus Williams then earned a tough, three-set victory in the quarters over MIT, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (11-9). Lindstrom succumbed to the eventual champion from Bowdoin, 1-6, 1-6, in the semifinals. Melnikov started his tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Bowdoin then dispatched Williams in the quarters, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). Melnikov fell short in the semis to MIT, 4-6, 4-6.
 
- In the Saratoga bracket, Lalith Suresh recovered from an opening round loss to reach the consolation final. He started consolation play with a tight 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (12-10) success versus Bowdoin. Suresh then rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Williams to advance to the final, where he suffered a valiant 6-7 (4-7), 5-7 loss to Bowdoin.
 
- Chen and Gilbert both picked up a win in their respective brackets before bowing out in the quarterfinals. Chen won 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) against MIT in the Saratoga draw while Gilbert earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over UC Santa Cruz in the Adirondack bracket.
