Landry Delivers Two Goals, Including Overtime Winner, as Field Hockey Tops Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Amelia Landry scored her second goal of the game with 3:10 remaining in overtime to give the Swarthmore College field hockey team a 4-3 Centennial Conference victory at Gettysburg College on Saturday. It was the third straight win for the Garnet.

Swarthmore never trailed in the contest but the Bullets had an answer to every Garnet tally in regulation, including the tying goal with just 22 seconds to go to force the extra session. Swarthmore tied its season high with 18 penalty corners but had to overcome an 18-15 deficit in shots to pull out the victory in a high-scoring affair.

Landry notched the first multi-goal performance of her career to lead the Garnet. Emma Duffield set up Landry's game-winner while also scoring a goal to finish with a three-point contest. Cassandra Conklin compiled a season-high 12 saves in the Swarthmore cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After having their first four shots turned aside by the goalkeeper, the Garnet finally put one on the board just before the first-quarter buzzer. Swarthmore pushed the ball up the field and Katherine Kohn found an open Sophia Hitchingham at the left post. Hitchingham shot the ball into an open net and the Garnet had the lead.

- Gettysburg pressured early in the second quarter, recording the first six shots of the period, the last of which found the back of the cage to even the score at one. Swarthmore only mustered one shot during the frame and the teams were deadlocked at one at halftime.

- The Garnet got off to a strong start in the third quarter, registering three shots and four penalty corners before the Bullets were able to record a shot attempt. The Swarthmore offensive effort resulted in a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute. Sarah Cooper received an insert pass on a penalty corner then passed down low to Landry. Landry fired past the goalkeeper to put the Garnet in front.

- After being held to only one shot in the third, Gettysburg converted its first shot of the fourth quarter just 2:23 into the period to tie it up at two. Swarthmore went back ahead in the 54th minute as Duffield followed up her own shot to beat the goalie for a 3-2 edge. The Bullets generated pressure down the stretch with four penalty corners and three shots and it resulted in the equalizer in the final seconds to send the contest into overtime.

- Gettysburg produced the first shot of the extra period, but Conklin came up with the save to keep it going. It was all Garnet from that point as they earned five penalty corner opportunities, resulting in three shots, the last of which ended the game. Duffield inserted the ball to Landry at the top of the scoring area on a corner. Landry dribbled to her right then blasted it past the keeper to give Swarthmore the victory.
