Field Hockey Shuts Out Muhlenberg for Fourth-Straight Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team captured its fourth-straight victory with a 2-0 shutout over Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night. The Garnet defeated the Mules for their fifth-straight matchup - dating back to the 2019 season.

Gabriella Vasquez opened the game in the 14th minute with her second goal of the season. Katherine Kohn then added to the team's lead in the 33rd minute for her seventh goal. Kohn added an assist on Swarthmore's opening tally to expand her season total to a team-leading 16 points.

Cassandra Conklin recorded her third shutout of the season and 12th of her career. The junior is currently tied for fourth all-time in career shutouts at Swarthmore.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet held the Mules without a shot as they controlled the opening stanza. Swarthmore attempted four shots in the quarter, which included a shot on goal from Kohn in the fifth minute. Vasquez eventually broke through with the game's opening score in the 14th minute. The Garnet created traffic in front of the cage, before Kohn poked the ball to Vasquez at the near post.

- Conklin was tested early in the second quarter as she stood strong for her lone save of the contest. Defense dominated most of the stanza with both teams combining for just one shot.

- Early in the third, Kohn provided the Garnet with some breathing room. Magdelana Jordan lifted a pass to senior at the far post, which was deflected high into the cage. Sophia Hitchingham and Hannah Ulrich also threatened with shots on goal, but were both turned away by saves. The Garnet outshot their opponent 5-2 in the stanza.

- Swarthmore allowed very few opportunities for the Mules to stage a late comeback. The Garnet held Muhlenberg without a shot in the final quarter as they were unable to generate much offense. The Garnet offense remained on the attack with six shots from six different players.
