Women’s Soccer Blanks Ursinus for Consecutive Shutout Victories

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team captured back-to-back shutout victories with a 4-0 decision over Ursinus College on Friday night.

The Garnet spread out the scoring with goals from four different players. Allie Zitelli netted the lone first-half goal with the opening score in the 31st minute. Swarthmore then opened the floodgates in the second half with goals from Celia Kanellakos, Charlotte Carleton and Anwen Reed.

Sofie Aird and Lila Travers split duties in a combined shutout. Aird made one save in the opening half, while Travers made one highlight-reel stop on a penalty kick. The Garnet dominated possession the entire game with a 27-6 shot advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet earned an early corner attempt in the fourth minute. Marea Lee gathered the loose ball inside the box, but played her attempt just wide of the goal. Swarthmore got off to a quick start with a flurry of attempts in the stanza. The team attempted five shots in the opening 10-minutes of action.

- Swarthmore continued to control possession throughout the opening half. Ava Gizzie ripped a rocket on goal, which was deflected behind the endline to earn the Garnet a corner kick. Keren Maze then found the head of Aminah Evans, who deflected the ball off the crossbar to Allie Zitelli. The senior then gathered the rebound to beat the keeper for the opening score in the 31st minute.

- The Garnet dominated possession in the opening half with a 13-2 shot advantage and allowed only one shot on goal, which was saved by Aird. Swarthmore kept possession for over 60-percent of the half.

- The Garnet threatened with a couple quality shot attempts early in the second. Gizzie rocketed a shot just wide of the right post, while Reed elevated an attempt above the crossbar in the 51st minute.  Moments later, Kenellakos fed a beautiful pass to Gizzie to get behind the defense. However, the sophomore fired the ball above the crossbar.

- Kenellakos broke through with an insurance tally in the 60th minute. The first-year carried the ball to the top of the box before firing a shot past the keeper. Moments later, Carleton found the back of the net after breaking free from her defender with an excellent pass from Macie Mangini

- Reed earned her team a penalty kick after she was taken down inside the box by an Ursinus defender. Reed took the attempt and beat the keeper to the low-right post for her second collegiate score.

- Travers preserved the team's shutout with an outstanding diving attempt on a penalty kick. The stop marked the junior's first save since returning from injury.
