Women’s Basketball Holds Off McDaniel, Sallie Headlines Five Players in Double Figures

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team got back on track with an important conference victory over McDaniel College, 77-68, on Tuesday night. The win snapped a two-game skid for the Garnet, while also lifting the team back over .500 in the Centennial Conference. 

T Sallie was crucial to victory as he nailed several big-time shots in a team-high 19-point effort. The junior recorded a career-high in scoring as he led the team in scoring with a trio of three-pointers on a remarkable 8-of-10 shooting performance from the field. 

Norah Wingfield was also outstanding for the Garnet with 17 points, while Anna Hansson notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Dana Bandurick and Alyssa Hayashi helped round out the team's season-high 77 points with 11 points, respectively. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Green Terror opened the game with a 10-2 run after five minutes of play. Wingfield then settled things down with a much-needed three-pointer, while Hansson and Hayashi added layups on consecutive possessions to pull within a point. Bandurick then ended the quarter with a jumper to tie the game at the first intermission, 15-15. 

- Swarthmore took control of the game with a 10-1 run to open the second quarter. Hayashi kicked off the rally with a step-back three to get off to a fast start to the stanza. Sallie then drained another triple to put Swarthmore ahead by double digits with 6:36 remaining. Swarthmore then kept its foot on the gas with eight-unanswered as they built their lead to 18-points with 3:02 left. The Green Terror were able to shrink their deficit before halftime with a couple threes to finish on an 8-0 swing, 38-28.

- McDaniel made up ground early in the third quarter until Hayashi drilled a three-pointer to cap off five-unanswered for Swarthmore, 45-34. Later in the stanza, the Green Terror put together another run with three-straight buckets to pull within five points. Sallie then connected from deep with a pivotal three-pointer to provide Swarthmore with an answer. The Garnet maintained their lead at the end of the quarter with an eight-point advantage, 54-46.

- The Green Terror made up ground quickly in the fourth quarter to shrink their deficit to three points with 9:08 left. Wingfield then countered with a Swarthmore bucket, while Bandurick added a driving layup to regain some breathing room, 58-51. Moments later, McDaniel punched back with consecutive buckets, before Sallie countered with another momentum-shifting triple to hold off the Green Terror. McDaniel later found themselves within four points until Sallie helped shut the door with the opening bucket of a 7-0 run for the Garnet. Swarthmore held on the rest of the way as they kept their opponent at a distance.
