WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Swarthmore College men's basketball team used an 18-2 run to take the lead for good in the second half and snap its four-game skid with a 75-65 win at McDaniel College in a Centennial Conference game on Tuesday night.
The teams were tied at halftime and continued to remain tight through the early portion of the second. The Green Terror held a three-point lead at the 9:51 mark before the Garnet surged with seven straight points to kickstart the key stretch. The rally concluded with 2:52 remaining and Swarthmore ahead, 71-58.
Michael Caprise posted his second 20-point performance in a row, finishing with 23 on the night. He shot 8-of-11 from the field.
Nyle Coleman scored a season-high 15 points.
Eddie Paquette and
Aidan Godfrey contributed 12 and 10 points respectively. The Garnet converted 56.3% of their shots, including a blistering 62.5% in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore got out to an early 8-3 lead but McDaniel answered with nine of the next 11, all on three-pointers, to go ahead 12-10. The two sides then traded the advantage for the remainder of the opening half, staying within one possession of each other for the final 13 minutes. Both squads hit 50.0% of its shots and were even at 32 at the break.

Cal Hanson started the second period with a three to put the Garnet in front but it was more of the same as the two sides stayed within three points for the first 10 minutes of the half.
- The Green Terror was ahead, 56-53, with 9:51 to go when Swarthmore finally broke through. Caprise started the rally with an and-one layup to tie the score at 56. Godfrey gave the Garnet the upper hand with a free throw at 8:53. After three foul shots by Caprise, McDaniel made a pair at the stripe to get within two (60-58) but Swarthmore came back with 11 unanswered to take a 13-point advantage (71-58) with 2:52 to play. Caprise led the way with 10 points and Godfrey capped off the 18-2 run with a dagger three. The Garnet shot 6-for-10 during the stretch while restricting the Green Terror to 0-for-7 from the floor.
